Mike Cowie

Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, Mike began his career as a professional musician at sixteen. After freelancing for six years in Toronto and four years in the United States, Mike returned to Halifax in the late 80s where he has been a major musical presence on the Halifax music scene as a

musician and producer.

I was playing a 1949 LB Martin Committee which Ron Partch had fixed up for me. I loved the tone and the way it played. But... it was falling apart, so I was looking for another trumpet. Paul Tynan told me about Ewan's horns and I got super excited about playing a Canadian trumpet! I jumped on the first plane.

I was not expecting to buy the large bell, based on the description, but the moment I played it that was IT! The dark smokey sound and the way it played the notes I was hitting was very similar to the committee .... but on steroids....and so in tune!

The big surprise was later, when I was in situations where I needed to burn and sit on top brightly it was all there ... but the sound is huge!

How easy or efficient a trumpet plays is way down my list. I need tone! When audiences hear me play they have to be all in from the first note... so a big smokey sound at mp or mf is what I built my career on. The fewer notes I play the better, so they better sound good.

I always go for beauty and my Divitt delivers ....makes me sound better than I ever thought I could.

Love my #58!

BTW Ewan gives you a nickle tuning slide to brighten up the horn for certain situations....I've never even put mine in .... LOL.
