Looking After Your Instrument

Divitt Trumpets trumpets are built to be played, not babied — but a little regular care goes a long way. Proper maintenance keeps your instrument playing freely, responding consistently, and sounding its best for years to come.

Daily Care

  • Wipe down the instrument after playing to remove moisture and oils

  • Empty all water keys and swab leadpipe and tuning slide before storing the trumpet

  • Store your trumpet in the dust bag provided before placing it in the case

  • Avoid leaving your instrument assembled and wet in the case

A few seconds of care after each session helps prevent corrosion and buildup.

Valve Care

Valves are the heart of the instrument and should be oiled regularly.

  • Use a high-quality valve oil. We Recommend Hetman, Yamaha, La Tromba, J. Meinlschmidt and BERP oils. 

  • Oil the valves every few days, or daily if you play frequently

  • Keep valves clean and free of debris​

Slide Care

  • Keep tuning slides lightly greased so they move smoothly

  • Wipe slides clean before applying fresh grease

  • Avoid forcing slides that feel stuck

​

Regular slide maintenance helps with tuning, response, and long-term fit.

​

Cleaning

  • Perform a gentle home cleaning as needed using warm water and mild soap

  • Use flexible brushes designed for brass instruments

  • Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners

​

If you’re unsure, it’s always better to clean lightly and more often than aggressively.

​

Storage & Handling

  • Always store your trumpet in its case when not in use

  • Avoid extreme temperatures and humidity

  • Never leave your instrument in a hot or cold car​

​

Professional Service

Even with good daily care, we recommend professional servicing periodically.

Regular cleanings and inspections help maintain alignment, valve efficiency, and overall performance. If something feels off, don’t wait — small issues are much easier to address early.

  • Store the mute clean and dry

  • Avoid excessive heat exposure

  • If you experience any issues, contact us

Divitt Practice Mutes are covered by a lifetime warranty. Simply send us a photo and we’ll take care of it. Replacement shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer.
